The Seal of the Spirit

The Seal of the Spirit

A seal is a mark of ownership placed on something to show it is truly the property of its owner.spirit seals It can be broken or removed, but once applied it becomes indelible. For Christians, the Spirit is our spiritual seal that shows we belong to God. The seal of the Holy Spirit is spoken of three times in the New Testament (2Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:13; 4:30). It is an unbreakable seal of divine ownership and salvation. There are three purposes for the sealing of the Spirit.

The first seal is the seal of salvation, declared at the time a person accepts Christ as their Savior.spirit seals The redeemed retain that seal as long as they continue to live faithfully for Him. This seal is not taken away by falling from grace, but can be broken by rejecting the truth of His Word.

Once a believer is sealed, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in them.spirit seals This indwelling will last for all eternity, and is a guarantee that the promises of God will be fulfilled (John 16:7; Ephesians 1:13; 4:30). However, a seal is not a privilege to be earned or worked for, but is a gift given by God upon our acceptance of Christ as Savior.

As the church, it is our responsibility to maintain the integrity of this spiritual seal.spirit seals We must not grieve the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30). We must also be steadfast in our belief that Jesus is the Son of the living God, and that He alone has redeemed us. If we neglect to honor the Spirit and neglect His Word, we will lose our seal of salvation.

The final purpose of the sealing of the Holy Spirit is to glorify God and His Son.spirit seals This is done through the teaching of the Gospel and through the lives of those who are sealed. The Lord works in the hearts of believers to will and to act in order to accomplish His good purposes (Philippians 2:12-13). If we will glorify Him and praise Him for who He is, it will magnify His glory and magnify His name in the world (Ephesians 3:8; 1 Peter 2:11). The sealing of the Holy Spirit ensures that our lives are a witness to the true gospel of Jesus Christ. By maintaining a pure faith and obeying His commandments, we will maintain our integrity and keep the seal of the Spirit. It is this indwelling that makes us the unique and special people that God has chosen and saved to be His kingdom and family (Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 6:20). We are his treasure and heirs (Ephesians 1:18). He will be exalted and praised in the world to come (Revelation 19:4). God has blessed us in so many ways, and the sealing of the Holy Spirit is just one of them! Let’s honor Him. He deserves it!
